08/31/08 Blandford Police will continue the over the limit under arrest deployment until September 3rd. 08/26/08 Fair weekend is approaching, The Blandford Police will be increasing patrols for the weekend. Also, officers will be deployed as part of the Over the limit under arrest grant. The office will be open from 4pm until midnight on Friday and Saturday. Any police related calls should be directed to our office (848-2020) as we will be running in-house dispatch on these nights. 08/22/08 2 party's removed from Watson Park after hours. 08/17/08 A Criminal Complaint was issued to a party driving on a suspended license.
Over The Limit Under Arrest The Blandford Police Department and Law Enforcement Agencies across the Commonwealth will be aggressively targeting motorist who are suspected of operating under the influence. 08/13/08 The Blandford Police Department has requested the organizers of The Blandford Fair provide detailed Public Safety Plans for the fair weekend. There are several area's of concern that need to be addressed. 08/12/08 The department has obtained a LIDAR speed measuring system. The LIDAR unit was obtained through a Highway Safety Bureau Grant program. LIDAR is much more effective and accurate than traditional radar. 08/01/08 Several reports of malicious damage to property on Russell Stage Road. 07/31/08 The Blandford Police Department was awarded an equipment grant from the Executive Office of Public Safety. The grant will be used to purchase a dash mounted radar and a handheld LIDAR unit. 07/30/08 Well being check Otis Stage Road, party not at residence 07/29/08 Responded to alarm activation Otis Stage Road, residence was secure. 07/18/08 Responded to a report of a tree down on RT. 23 near Birch Hill Road. 07/12/08 Due to staffing issues the office will not be open Monday July 14th 07/11/08 Responded to area of 26 Sperry Rd for a report of a tree down on utility wires. 07/09/08 Responded to a car that lost control and struck a boulder Rt. 23 WB near Lloyds Road, no one was injured. 07/04/08 1 vehicle towed by Blandford Police for safety inspection violation. 07/01/08 With the failure of the 2 1/2 over ride vote the Police Department will begin the inevitable task of budget cutting. This is a serious issue to all the residents of Blandford as essential services will most likely be severely impacted.
06/25/08 Responded to a 911 call on 27 North Street for a report of a lawn tractor on fire. The fire was extinguished, no one was injured. Responded to a residential alarm on Beech Hill Road. The alarm was set off by storms in the area. Extra Patrols targeting drunk drivers will begin in July. 06/11/08 Blandford Police, Blandford Fire, and The Blandford Highway Department were on scene throughout the overnight and early morning following severe storms that came through the area on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Numerous trees were reported down, numerous power and telephone lines were reported down. At one point the entire town of Blandford was without power. As of this posting (21:40 pm) power was gradually being restored to residents.

06/04/08 911 hang-up call, 22 North Street, Blandford Officers responded, accidental by homeowner. 6/03/08 Blandford Officers responded to Old Blandford Road In Otis for a request for assistance from the Otis Police. 1 party was arrested by Otis police on OUI Charges. ---------- Responded to Laurel ridge campgrounds for a suspicious group of campers. 5 party's were removed from the campgrounds by Blandford officers. 2 party's were trespassed from the property. ---------- Per the click it or ticket deployment: 1 vehicle was towed, and a complaint issued, to a party for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration.
05/31/08 Blandford Police arrested 1 party last evening on numerous m/v charges stemming from a hit and run accident on Route 23 Eastbound near the animal hospital. The suspect, Michael Carr, 51, of Otis, attempted to flee the scene in his motor vehicle. Blandford Police Officer's Mazza and McCaul apprehended Carr in the area of Rt. 23 by North Blandford Road. Carr was placed under arrest. The

05/29/08 Blandford Officers were on scene for a live power line down on North Blandford Road. Officer's were also called to Rt. 23 by Beach Hill Rd for a tree down across the road.
05/26/08 Thanks to all who turned out for the Town's Annual Memorial Day Parade. Another great turnout for the town. ------------- During the parade Blandford Bike officers observed a vehicle operating with an infant not secured in a car seat. The vehicle was stopped and the operator of the motor vehicle was cited. ------------- Blandford Officers issued 26 citations/warnings over the holiday weekend as part of the Click-it or ticket campaign. ------------- 05/25/08 Blandford Police responded to an audible alarm on North Street. Property was checked and was secure. State Police responded to a Shepard Road for a report of shots fired. A resident, who was target shooting on their property, was advised to stop. 05/22/08 The Department has received 75 bike/skateboard helmets on a grant, residents that would like a bike helmet for themselves or for their children can contact our office, or e-mail us at freebikehelmets@blandfordpolice.com. We have sizes from adults to toddlers in a variety of colors. Helmets are for town residents only. The Towns Annual Memorial Day Parade starts at 11:30 am Memorial day weekend is here. A Reminder to all to drive responsibly this weekend. Blandford Police will assigning extra patrols throughout the weekend. The Blandford Police Department will re-introduce the use of police mountain bikes. The bikes will be used in specific area's of the town and will also be used for Public functions such as the Memorial Day parade, Halloween, Blandford fair, etc.
05/21/08 Blandford Police responded to a report of a house struck by lightning at 15 Shepard Road. Blandford and Otis Fire Departments were on scene and determined that lightning did not strike the house. The department will be purchasing a lidar radar system with money received from Highway Safety Grants. This system not only monitors the speed of oncoming vehicles, it also measures the distance of the vehicle. 05/13/2008 2 vehicles were towed by Blandford Officers, they were both non-registered, non-insured.

05/05/08 The Blandford Police Department would like to thank the town meeting members who passed the Departments 2009 budget request. The Blandford Police Department were awarded a grant for Bike/Skateboard helmets for children and adults. More information will be posted on this site when the helmets arrive. Free gun locks will be available to town residents. There are a limited number of locks. Anyone interested can leave a message at the office.

04/30/08 The department is gearing up for "Click it or Ticket" mobilization of the Governors Highway Safety Bureau Grant. 04/25/08 Blandford Police and Highway Department personnel assisted the fire department with a brush fire off of Sperry Road. 04/19/08 The departments 2 mountain bikes have been sent out to be repaired and serviced. The bikes themselves are in good shape. With some TLC the bikes should be as good as new and ready for their memorial day debuts.
04/15/08 Blandford Police responded to a fire in the rear of 3 Gibbs Road. The Blandford Fire Department, along with mutual aid from surrounding communities, were on scene and eventually extinguished the fire. Blandford Police are running extra details under the Road Respect Grant mobilization. Officers are monitoring traffic for aggressive drivers. Officers are on the lookout for motorist speeding, following to closely, lane violations, etc. To address a recent rumor making the rounds around town. There have been no recent reports of numerous housebreaks in Blandford. If in fact anything like this were to occur, all relevant information that could be released would be posted on this website.
04/08/08 Blandford Police responded to a dispatch call for a child who was shot in the foot with a BB gun. The child was not seriously injured The Police Department will, once again, begin to handle hunting permits.
Plans are underway for the towns first National Night out against crime on August 5, 2008. More information will be posted on the events for the evening.
The Towns' old communications tower on the water tank has been dismantled, the tower was becoming a safety hazard. The Antenna, which was thought to have been damaged, was in fact fine, and will be used to upgrade the current communications system. Thanks to all involved with their help.
The department's new cruiser laptop has been installed, the laptop will go online with State CJIS system in a couple of days.

"Road Respect" March 26, 2008 - April 16, 2008 The Blandford Police Department will be adding extra patrols during this period. During this mobilization Officer's of will be looking for motorist who are speeding, passing in no passing zones, and following to closely, along with other violations. Blandford Police are also requesting assistance from the residents of Blandford to assist in combating aggressive driving. If you witness an aggressive driver please call the Blandford Police Department , or our regional dispatch line, and report the license plate, type of vehicle, color of vehicle, and what you have witnessed.
03/27/08 As most may have heard, Blandford Police Chief Ron Brown is on active deployment over in Iraq. Ron is in the middle of Baghdad at this time. As we have all been hearing on the news, Baghdad has seen it's share of problems the last couple of days. Our thought's and prayers are with him, and all others, who serve our country during these tough times.
The Department ran several speed enforcement details on North St. Most of the violations were from resident's that live on the street (North/Chester). The posted limit for North street is 35 MPH
03/24//08 Blandford Police will seek criminal complaints against 2 party's after Class D drugs were found in the vehicle they were operating.
03/21/08 Blandford Officers were on scene for the numerous downed tree's and power lines that occurred throughout the town.
The Departments 2 mountain bikes are scheduled to be re-fitted and put back into service. They will be used for public functions (Memorial Day, Fair, Etc.) 03/15/08 State Police responded to an incident on Russell Stage Road. Blandford Police were aware of the situation and assistance was offered. 03/14/08 The Blandford Police Department has recently been granted access to the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) and the Massachusetts Instant Records Check (MIRCS) systems. This is a giant step forward for the Department. These new systems will allow Blandford Police the ability to do record checks, process LTC and FID applications faster, and do warrant management checks in house. Soon the department will have mobile access to the CJIS system via cruiser laptops. This is another vital step in the upgrading of the police department. The cruiser laptop is essential to any present day police department, this gives the officer on the street the advantage of having the information readily available, in front of them, instead of waiting for dispatch. (which can be very slow - remember we use regional dispatch) A thank you to Blandford residents, the compliments our department has received lately have been greatly appreciated by the officers. 03/09/08 The Department's new server and database system is now fully operational. This will greatly improve the departments ability to keep track of records and statistics. The departments new L.T.C system will be online within the next week. 03/06/08 Assisted a motorist who went off RT. 23 into a snow bank. 02/29/08 Blandford Police responded to a medical emergency call at a residence on Main Street. The resident was transported to the hospital by ambulance. 02/25/08 The Office will not be open tonight for LTC renewals due to the department being in the middle of computer and server upgrades. The CJIS and MIRCS system is scheduled to go online soon. 02/16/08 Congratulations to Off. Rick Mazza and Special Officers Dennis Flores and Lindsey McCaul, all were certified in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. Flores and McCaul were also certified to use the departments Portable Breathalyzer.
02/12/08 1 female was arrested by Blandford Police on a Default Warrant. 02/09/08 The department has been contacted by Criminal Justice Information System and are awaiting a final date to install the CJIS/MIRCS software. This software will allow the department to be able to process firearm and pistol permit applications in a timelier fashion. 02/05/08 1 party was arrested by Blandford Police for outstanding warrants and drug possession charges. The Police and highway departments have started to upgrade and repair the town radio transmitter. There have been numerous issues with the system.
01/28/08 Blandford Police assisted the town building inspector on Gibbs Road. A final notice was issued to a party trespassing. Police stood by as the inspector notified a resident of code violations on their property. Dennis Flores and Lindsey McCaul were appointed to the Blandford Police Department as Special Officers. 1/20/08 Congratulations to Blandford Police Chief Ronald Brown who was awarded the Western MA Police Chiefs associations second annual academic achievement award.
----------------------------- BPD Officers now have individual e-mail addresses, each address is listed below the officers name on the officer's page. 01/19/08 A Criminal citation was issued By BPD to a party for driving on suspension. The Motor vehicle was towed from scene. Blandford Police, along with EMS, responded to a medical call on Gibbs Road. The party was transported to the hospital via Otis ambulance. The department officers are looking into starting the Blandford Police Association. The association would raise money, through dues and fund raising, to help assist in purchasing equipment and training for officers. The department conducted interviews (1-07) for the 2 Special Police Officer Positions. There were 14 applicants. 2 applicants were offered positions pending selectman notification. The department now has a town by-law violation citation book. The department has received numerous complaints regarding snow being plowed across town roads. Just an FYI, the fine, per town by-law, is $150.00.
1/10/08 Blandford Police arrested 1 party on m/v charges. 01/07/08 Interviews were conducted for the 2 new Special Police Officer positions. There were 11 prospective candidates. 1 vehicle was towed this evening by BPD. The driver of the vehicle's license was suspended. A Criminal citation was issued to the driver. 1/01/08 Police took 4 party's into protective custody. They were all released to relatives without incident. Patrolman Kevin Hennessey has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Patrolman Rick Mazza has be promoted to Field Training Officer. Mazza will oversee the training and compliance for all Blandford Police Officers. Preliminary Interviews for the 2 Special Police Officer positions will start Monday January 7, 2008. |
